Back to School for Moms: Don’t Forget About You

You did it, Mom. You made it through another hot, busy, fun-filled summer. From pool days to camps to road trips, you packed the kids’ schedules with activities and now have a phone full of photos (that maybe, just maybe, will end up in a scrapbook one day) to prove what an amazing summer it was.

And now—here comes the next ride. Back to school.

You’re supporting your little one through those first-day nerves, checking the calendar for math tutoring sessions, and rearranging after-school activities to fit everyone’s needs. On one hand, you look forward to the quiet house and a little more structure. On the other, you secretly wish you could squeeze in just a few more days of summer magic with your kids.

That’s the push and pull of motherhood—holding the joy of more time together while also welcoming the relief of routine.

But here’s the part I don’t want you to miss: as you move into this next season, make space for yourself. It’s so easy to get swept up in school drop-offs, packing lunches, helping with homework, and organizing activities that you forget there’s another person in the family who also needs care—you.

This fall, be intentional about not losing yourself in the shuffle. Take those extra steps to put yourself at the top of the to-do list. Maybe that looks like:

  • Blocking time in your calendar for a workout or a walk outside.
  • Picking up a book just for fun (not for the kids’ book report).
  • Take 15 min a day for quiet reflection (meditation, journaling, a moment of peace with your thoughts and coffee)
  • Saying yes to coffee with a friend or no to something that drains you.
  • Signing up for a class, hobby, or activity that’s yours and yours alone.

Your kids need you, but they need the whole you—the one who feels grounded, cared for, and connected to herself. When you show up for yourself, you show up better for them.

Because, Mom, you deserve that!
